nand film
# NAND Film
A NAND film is a material layer used to build a flash-memory device. In charge-trap NAND, some films carry or confine stored charge; others form gates, channels, isolation or temporary structures.
## Follow the stored charge
A charge-trap cell uses a trapping layer separated from the channel and gate by insulating films. The channel carries the sensed current; the gate controls it. The illustration shows functional order in a local flattened slice, not the full vertical array.
## Distinguish functional and temporary films
A sacrificial layer may define a future space and then be removed. Its role during manufacturing differs from the role of the electrode that replaces it. Calling both a NAND film does not make their electrical functions equivalent.
## What makes a film useful
Continuity, thickness control, interface quality and conformity matter, especially along a deep channel opening. A film that is adequate at the top may be inadequate at the bottom if the deposition is not uniform.
## Scope
Floating-gate NAND and charge-trap NAND use different storage structures. Always identify the architecture before assigning a film's role.
