Latch-Up Prevention
Latch-up prevention combines several complementary techniques: guard rings and dense well/substrate tap placement to raise trigger current, foundry design rule compliance limiting maximum distance between any transistor and its nearest tap, and in the most demanding applications, deep N-well isolation or silicon-on-insulator substrates that can reduce or entirely eliminate the parasitic PNPN path. No single technique alone typically provides adequate protection at every process node and application; latch-up prevention in practice layers multiple techniques together, each adding incremental immunity margin.
